REVIEW - ARCTIC WINDS

Author: Sondrae Bennett
Pages: 72 pages
Publisher: Lyrical Press
Published: January, 2011
Form: E-book (review copy from the publisher)
Series: Alpine Woods Shifters#1
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Lyrical Press: Buy / $3.50

That is so bad! Horrible! Cruel! Why is this book so short! Seriously, it's the only bad thing I have to say about it!

Samantha, a fox-shifter, cast out from her skulk in Alaska has been touring a states trying to find jobs, staying short whiles in different places - coming in to this diner wasn't going to be different.

Jason only needed one scent of her and his hands were tied, and his heart with it, the terrified, beaten down little fox captured him immediately, and he has no plans to let her just pass by. As scared as she is of practically everything it's going to take time and a good plan to show the woman that she belong in his pack of wolves - with him - forever.
“I’m not worried you’re going to cause trouble,” he all but growled out.
Staring up into his eyes, altered from their mossy green color to a pale yellow that practically glowed, Samantha felt heat flood her core.
“Then what are you worried about?” Samantha whispered, gripping his forearms. He didn’t answer, but his gaze lowered to her lips and he growled again, low and deep. From her position, pushed up against the car by his hard chest, Samantha didn’t hear the rumble so much as she felt it reverberate against her. With the car behind her and the equally unyielding chest in front of her, Samantha felt an unfamiliar spike in her desire as she realized there was no escape. She didn’t want one. She had no thoughts of running away from this man.
I loved Jason from the first sentence, I love male characters that know what they want and take it with no crap about it. Jason wants Samantha, and he's tap dancing around just how badly he wants her so she won't freakout and bolt.

And I loved Samantha! There is a little bit of me in her that just made me love the book, love her character, she's a woman who needs a man who knows how to get her past her Past. It's not easy to be not accepted by your community/skulk and sometimes only thing that can bring you out of it is love, and erm... in this novella a really good turn in the sheets. ;)

Absolutely worth reading! This is going to be another favourite shifter story of mine! And luckily there is atleast one more "Chasing Paradise" out now and one coming soon!
Little update on this from the author! The newest "Wolf Within" is to come out July 2012!

Sexy, tempting and lovable love story!

DIRTY LITTLE SECRET #6

Dirty Little Secret is a weekly meme hosted by Under the Covers.
Every Thursday we get to know other bloggers and our readers more intimately by asking them a question hoping to reveal their dirty little secrets.  We hope that you will all join us!

This weeks question:

"If you could have wings, what would they look like?"

Answer : If I could have wings they'd be something gorgeous, glittery, sparkly, think of vistorias secret, I'd want something cute and off beat, butterfly, faery-ish, colorful! Let me see if I can find a picture!

Like that but more colorful, purples, pinks, greens and yellows. :) I'm very specific about my wings. ;D

How about you, what would your wings look like?

REVIEW - BROKEN

"In a post-war future world where First Contact has been made, humans are colonizing the stars, and the nations of Earth have been united under a central government, Extrahumans are required by law to belong to the Union..."

Author: Susan J. Bigelow
Pages: 302 pages
Publisher: Candlemark & Gleam
Published: November 22nd, 2011
Form:Paperback
Series: Extrahumans #1
Genre: Sci-fi / Dystopia
Amazon: Buy / $19.95

“...When a young man with visions of the future sets out on a mission to define the course of human history, he encounters a devastated former hero, a fascist dictatorship bent on world domination, and the realities of living in a society where affiliation is everything.
Broken figured she was done with heroics when she lost the ability to fly and fled the confinement of the Extrahuman Union. But then the world started to fall apart around her, and the mysterious Michael Forward entered her life, dangling the possibility of redemption and rebirth.
Michael Forward can see the future, but all he wants is to escape the destiny he has struggled against all his life. When the moment comes, though, he finds he can't refuse. Now he needs the help of a homeless ex-superhero to save a baby who may be the key to humanity's freedom.
Monica had a good life with her large family, until two strangers and a baby showed up at her door. Now her family is gone, her life is in ruins, and she's on the run from the law.
In a time of spreading darkness, when paranoia and oppression have overtaken the world, can three unlikely allies preserve a small ray of hope for a better, brighter future?” ~Goodreads

Broken is a story of extrahumans in a dystopia sort of police-state sci-fi world. As an idea it’s great! But I had a real hard time getting into the story, the beginning was choppy to me, even though I know it was convening the aloof, memory loss and detachment of Broken, a woman who use to be the superhero Silverwyng, now a runaway dogging attention to keep herself away from facing her punishment.

This fell flat for me, I really wanted to like it, and tried to get into it but ended up abandoning the book.
If I had read this six years ago I bet I would have loved it, due to what was intriguing to me at the time.

The writing though, I liked, there was a fun rhythm to it and it was fast pace at times and slowed down to grab attention at other times. The world was interesting, original and had a cool edge to it.

I’d recommend this to sci-fi lovers and people who like their superheroes broken. ;)

REVIEW - THIS SIDE OF THE GRAVE

Author: Jeaniene Frost
Pages: 357 pages
Publisher: Avon
Published: February, 2011
Form: Paperback
Series: Night Huntress #5
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Amazon: Buy / $7.99
Adlibris: Buy / €7.50
Book Depository: Buy / €5.30

At the end of "Destined For An Early Grave" Cat finally becomes a full blooded vampire, but it seems she's never destined to be normal. She was a freak of nature at half-vampire, now as a full blood one she's still not normal - she drink vampire blood, absorbing the vampire’s special abilities.

These abilities have Apollyon, a ghoul, nervous. He tried to kill Cat before when she was a half-vampire, now he uses her to instigate a full blown war, ghouls against vampires. And no one sane wants that!

Cat and Bones, now married, try to put out the fire before it burns both species - but it's hard when Apollyon hides, encouraging ghouls to strike against vampires. Joining forces with Mencheres and Vlad again ensures a story that does not lack in witty quips and laugh out louds!
Bones takes Cat up to the top of a bridge for flying lessons while he waits by the water line.
"Your instincts kicked in under duress. Falling from this height should make you experience similar duress, allowing those instincts to take over again." he replied with more calm that was fair. "Come on, Kitten, jump. Or I'll throw you off."
"You throw me off this bridge, Bones, and  you'll have a lot celibacy in your future!"
His lips curled in a way that said he wasn't worried. "Only means I'd have to work harder to change your mind, and you know how I love my work. Now quit stalling. If you're still up there in five minutes, I'm tossing you off."
I slowly uncurled my death grib from the beam. He'd do just what he said, and if I knew Bones, he'd already started the countdown.
Cat and Bones are such fun to read. They are the sexiest couple around, hands down!

I had forgotten how much I laugh reading the Night Huntress series, Jeaniene Frost is frigging goddess of fun paranormal romance! There isn't a woman around who can write like she does where you can't but the book down, and scare your pet/partner my suddenly laughing out loud and blush like crazy the next moment.

Cat is still the same ballsy, quick witted, lethal woman we've come to love during the series, she's just a little more mature in the way that she doesn't go off on her own, not after what happened with Bones on DfaEG, which still breaks my heart, btw. Bones is the same, and so addictive to read, any woman would absolutely love to get Bones on their case. I dare anyone to say they could resist the guy! ;D

Frost is a JOY to read! Pick this series up!

REVIEW - FROST MOON

Author: Anthony Francis
Pages: 284 pages
Publisher: Bell Bridge Books
Published: March 1st, 2010
Form: E-Book (review copy through NetGalley)
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Amazon: Buy
Adlibris: Buy

L5P. That's Little Five Point, a place that tolarates the supernatural but also home to Dakota Frost a tattoo artist. But not just any tattoo artist, Dakota is magical tattoo artist, meaning she can ink you with charms and symbols that have magical properties.

Life isn't dull for Dakota at the moment, she catches the interest of a werewolf who is looking for a artist to tattoo a binding ward on him to help him control his wolf at full moons, she also needs to go for help from her ex-girlfriend turned vampire with a submissive streak... and it just so happens that a famous illusionist is challenging her to see if she's a fake and if tattoo magic is real on his TV show. Not to mention a very young weretiger girl that tags along after one memorable Halloween party, well perhaps party is not a word she'd use... But no, that's not nearly all.

There is killer about and the police and FBI seek Dakota to help identify a tattood piece of skin and help them catch the killer who ribs it's victims to pieces at full moons. Lending a hand to FBI agent turns out isn't that bad but the more she thinks about it the more it seems to hit home with her werewolf client, is she right to suspect him or is there something more sadistic around.
"I first started wearing a Mohawk to repel low-lifes - barflies, vampires, Republicans, and so on - but when I found my true profession it turned into an ad. People’s eyes are drawn by my hair - no longer a true Mohawk, but a big, unruly “deathhawk,” a stripe of feathered black, purple and white streaks climbing down the center of my head - but their gaze lingers on the tattoos, which start as tribal vines in the shaved spaces on either side of the ’hawk and then cascade down my throat to my shoulders, flowering into roses and jewels and butterflies.
Their colors are so vivid, their details so sharp many people mistake them for body paint, or assume that they can’t have been done in the States. Yes, they’re real; no, they’re not Japanese - they’re all, with a few exceptions, done by my own hand, right here in Atlanta at the Rogue Unicorn in Little Five Points. Drop by - I’ll ink you. Ask for Dakota Frost."

Thrilling writing, a real urban fantasy feel with a heroine who's not to belittled by anyone, seriously she's over six foot tall... Francis writes beautifully and draws out a world of shifters, vampires, tattoo artists and their clients, while death stalks closer with the next Full Moon.

Fun, witty, sarcastic and grimly colorful Frost Moon is for the fans of the nightlife where more is alive than meets the naked eye! Dakota is wonderful, this girl appreciate the beauty of both sexes without going romance, has a snarky attitude and a deathhawk to go with it, and tattooed to no end. She a heroine like I've never met before and I love her!

REVIEW - SEDUCING THE BEAST

Author: Jayne Fresina
Pages: 213 pages
Publisher: Lyrical Press
Published: August 13, 2011
Form: Paperback
Genre: Historical Romance
Lyrical Press: Buy $5.50

London 1563. A straight-forward, hold-nothing-back Maddie is convinced that to save her cousin from being treated as a pirate she needs to seduce the Earl of Swafford, not knowing more of him that he is cruel and unkind and that something warrants his nickname, The Beast. Despite all this she is determent that to warm the Earl’s bed would be a way to get Queen Elisabeth to hear her cousin’s pardon.

After continuous coincidental meeting with a young wicked tongued brash woman, Griffin Earl of Swafford has had enough, believing she’s The Scarlet Widow, he kidnaps the woman and takes her out to the country into a small cottage to blackmail her to leave his brother alone.

Not knowing Griff’s true identity Maddie soon begins to feel much more for him than she could have imagined and love beings to emerge, but life isn’t going to be easy as Griff believes her to be a mercenary whore after his money and that is when it becomes obvious there is something seriously wrong with the Earl and Maddie doesn’t know if there is anything that she can do to help heal what was once utterly broken, his trust.

I enjoyed reading this, the story moves nicely forward without more than few light stalls, and when things pick up they sure do! This is for women who like their Historical Romance heroine witty and bold and their hero moody and broken but not quite beyond repaire.

I became quite distressed at the beginning of Part III, and I applaud writing that can cause such a feeling of dread and unease – as well as the giddy smile and sigh for the romance!
