"Cynden "Cyn" Frasier is a member of a group of immortal warriors, the Protectors, assigned to protect humans in Atlanta, Georgia, the epicenter of a major uprising in demon activity. When Cyn is approached by a beautiful woman in a dirty alley, he is intrigued by the fact that she can see him for what he is, a terrifying demon slayer, and still dares to approach him.

Emma Blake, a half-demon, has to convince Cyn to help rescue her sister from powerful demons. Terrified that the Protector will kill her if he realizes what she is, she still goes against every instinct and approaches Cyn for help. Despite knowing that she is leading them both into territory so wrought with treachery, neither of them may survive.

Can Cyn and Emma overcome betrayal, the ancient rules that prevent Protectors from taking a wife, unless she is his one true mate? And if they do, will it even matter?
" ~From Goodreads

I quite liked this novel, sure finished is quite quickly! Emma chasing Cyn to free her sister from the demons, betrayal in her mind and Cyn feeling drawn to her despite the fact he knew she wasn't going to be good to him. I believe he always knew she was going to betray him, but he didn't want to believe it. I kept hoping for a good while that she'd figure something out so she wouldn't have to give him to her sister capturer - and a book that has you hoping has you hooked. ;)

I liked both Cyn and Emma and all the other Protectors with fallen angel looks, big bodies and yummy snarky attitudes. I believe McQueen did quite well with her novel, it has the romance, the danger, the tension and it seems plenty of chances for another book. I liked the tension a lot, even though I felt it could have ended sooner, there were couple places where "and they lived happily forever after" would have sufficed, but what was added on wasn't bad at all, and I enjoyed it.

Cyn was certainly a delicious hero, capable, strong, he had some issues that made his reaction Emma quite heavy but then on his lighter moments I couldn't help but smile at how open he was with her, how playful, teasing. And lets not forget that he's built, has the fangs of a vampire and he's simply just a hot ripped blond! Emma, I felt, was bit one sided, all she thought of was her sister, which turns out to not be very good after all, she falls for Cyn, but hard headedly keeps on her one track pony not seeing what truly in front of her or going for a different deception. Then again it worked nicely with the story, but I would have wanted her to have the back bone to say 'screw that' and really have a look around her and weigh her options. Dispite this she's quite likable especially toward the end hald of the book.

You'll love this if... you like urban fantasy with a strong romance element, if you can't get enough of Scots and if you think warriors are the best thing since sliced bread! ;)

Fear, an aphrodisiac?

How many times during a horror flick do you see a couple stop and hide some place that everyone knows will not protect from the vicious ax murderer that’s chasing them? Then of course instead of trying to figure out a plan of action they silently decide it’s the perfect time to rip off each other’s clothing and get it on.  The reason for this being a time for two people to be drawn to each other is the same in a novel.  It’s that because fear is quite similar to arousal and our characters are drawn to act on it.

Pulse is accelerated, breathing is hitched and adrenaline is high.  In the altered state of fear people lose their inhibitions and their instincts become sharper.

Therefore, Jack can now easily read Jane’s signals.  Oh yeah she finds him too hot not to handle and Jane is less inclined to play ‘hard to get’ when she might die any minute.  So before you know it, Marvin Gay is playing in the background and Jack and Jane are naked and all tangled up.

Usually as soon as the act is complete, Jack and Jane get their bearings and realize the killer could appear any moment.  In the next scene, off they go, fully clothed, running toward the car outside.

Does it occur to them that the killer has rigged it with explosives while they were…er...busy?  Probably not.  BAM!

Hildie McQueen is a whirlwind who refuses to wear anything but jeans and heels.

She grew up on the San Diego/Mexico border, joined the military at seventeen and never returned.  After living in Germany, Texas and Hawaii, she finally settled in the beautiful southern town of Augusta, Georgia.

Biracial, half Mexican and half African-American, Hildie’s native language is Spanish, but English is her favorite way of communicating now.

Her mission in life is to make as many people as possible to feel normal.  It’s an easy thing to do, for others to feel normal around her, because she’s anything but.
