REVIEW - PARADIGM SHIFT & GIVEAWAY

"Observatory tour guide Megan Shaw has always had stars in her eyes, so when she all but runs down the otherworldly Raul, she barely blinks. It doesn’t hurt that Raul is hot – whether in his human form or his natural one – and that there’s an immediate mutual attraction.

But Raul is on the run from his alien overlords and soon Megan finds herself fighting against a foothold situation with nothing more than a couple of cattle prods and Muse for soundtrack.

However Earth is not the only planet at risk and with his species desperate to escape generations of oppression, will Raul’s loyalties shift as easily as his physical appearance?"

Good things first shall we? I loved the hot romance in this! A sci-fi girls's dream to have a erotic love scene with a woman and an alien ( now what I mean by alien is not a little grey man, ewww! This guy is hot even as an alien ) and have it done right. Paradigm Shift is a hot story, with a pretty good idea for a plot, and it could have been great if it hadn't been for few things that just didn't make sense.

The characters are totally unbelievable, and not in the 'comical' way but in the 'oh no one would ever react like that' way. And that strips a lot from the beginning of the book, I could go into details, but I don't see the need to I'm just going to say if you find an alien you won't immediately believe it and be okay with it no matter who or what you are - and you most certainly won't jump their bones. Now after Megan and Raul hook up the book has a very familiar feel to it and is instantly more believable and very much fun.

And then we also get to the plot - interrupted often by a lot of hot love scene ( whoo! ) - which is interesting, but perhaps the grass roots techniques of two "people" seems too small for the grand scheme of things ( read full blown alien invasion ). The evil aliens were interesting parasite shadow type things and that I did find very interesting, as well as description of Raul's true form!

You'll like this if... you like hot erotic sci-fi romance, but aren't too picky on wither it's realistic.

"Penny Anderson is sick of the questions that keep running around inside her head.

Coming home to Bandit Creek is her opportunity to find out the truth of her mother’s death, as well as to discover if the flame still burns brightly for her high school sweetheart.

Only, she never reckoned on the unexpected lust for not one, but two men. Craig Baxter and Douglas McKenzie have their sights set on Penny and they aren't about to let her go." ~From Goodreads

Hard Candy is an erotic romance novella with a main focus on a could-be-ménage and sub focus on mystery of Penny’s mother’s death.

The plot in Hard Candy was pretty simple, girls comes back to her home town, meets her high school boyfriend in the flesh again, falls in love. High school boyfriend is conflicted with feelings of wanting both his best friend recently returned and his ex-girlfriend recently returned. And best friend conflicted with love for his best friend and his friend’s ex. Sounds complicated, it is but it’s also simple and makes for an excellent ménage plot! As a suspense plot with the mystery of Penny’s mother’s death it’s not quite there, there should have been a finale ( a confrontation or closure ) to keep up with the suspense it started with in the beginning.

Penny was very likeable, even if bit unrealistic, she was looking to her mother’s death and was conflicted with it but had time for blowjobs and hijinks ( hat was the unrealistic part ) – it’s an erotic novella so it needs to jump into the bed scenes pretty fast, but I felt the little emotional  push to do it wasn’t too convincing. Craig I got completely, I mean men are wired that way, he was witty, bit goofy at times and still very sexy when it came time for it, he also really did love and want Penny which read very beautifully on the pages. Mack was the rough, brooding, sexy ( bit of a tease ) that fit in perfectly after all. He was the added stress and pleasure to the relationship – and a very yummy read with his trip down Craig/Mack memory lane.

The romance was hot, Buchanan writes super love scenes hot enough to make sure they get a girl’s breath hitched up. These something nice, something naughty and something tied. ;) And it makes for a hot read.

Penny Candy is an almost sweet erotic romance novella with a main focus on Penny and Craig’s second chance at love and sub focus on mystery of Penny’s mother’s death.

REVIEW - RELUCTANT PROTECTOR

"Cassie’s learned to shrink from kindness and to never trust anyone. She knows the day Peter finally captures her will be the day she dies. To elude her brother and save the others, she’ll have to risk her body and her heart. What she doesn't expect is a chance at a normal life."

Author: Nana Malone
Published: Self Published on December 2011

Genre: Urban Fantasy Romance
Series: The Protectors #1

"For five years, Cassie Reeser has been her brother’s personal lab rat. Peter’s experiments have made her a stronger, faster, better human. And she’s not the only one - he’s been experimenting on others as well. For five years, escape has eluded her. Until now. When she finds out he plans to sell her as a human weapon she knows it’s now or never. To make her escape she’ll sacrifice family bonds and leave behind the one person who’s ever helped her. Cassie’s learned to shrink from kindness and to never trust anyone. She knows the day Peter finally captures her will be the day she dies. To elude her brother and save the others, she’ll have to risk her body and her heart. What she doesn't expect is a chance at a normal life.

Seth Adams is used to sifting through lies to find the truth. As a former war correspondent he knows what evils lurk in the world. When he finds Cassie hiding out in his car trunk, her story sounds like a fantastical dream. But, before long, he witnesses firsthand what she’s talking about when they’re attacked by a group of Peter’s soldiers. As a result, he goes through his own transformation into a super human and realizes the extent of what Cassie is running from. Cassie might not think she needs his protection, but he’ll die before he lets her brother have her back." ~From Goodreads

Fast pace, interesting and dark, Reluctant Protector has a cool Dark Angel feel with its modified human weapons, escaping a facility and generally kicking ass - but it's more than that too, adding up all Cassie's abilities might ruin the plot so I won't do that. ;) The story has a modern urban fantasy feel with suspense and violence woven into it to get an exciting mix.

Sheltered Cassie was an interesting read when she begun to have emotional reaction to Seth, beginning to blush, get hot and bothered and begin to get attached. She still had the cool and collected side that had come with being isolated most of her childhood and imprisoned by her brother who was supposed to love her - but it was interesting to read her come out of her shell.

Seth came off as just a passenger on a ride in the beginning, but then you began to know more about him, about his strength, his skills, being a marine and he suddenly he felt capable even next to Cassie who was nothing to sneer at at 5 foot 2. I really enjoyed reading about Seth and seeing Cassie from his point of view.

The plot was very interesting, I have loved the human weapon stories since Dark Angel and Reluctant Protector didn't disappoint. I liked the action, the fight scenes and the warmth and coldness balance with the characters. Liked it plenty enough to pick up the second book when it comes out!

REVIEW - SEX, LIES AND CONTRACTS

"Jack Woodward has it all - wealth, power, and prestige, but discovers a contract stating he must marry within three months or his legacy will go to his cousin, a man he loathes. "Julianna Elizabeth Waters promises her dying father to save the family estate at all costs, even if it means marrying for money, and not love. After years of taking care of her sick parents, she's become afraid to push past the walls of her Newport mansion and live.

Jack Woodward has it all - wealth, power, and prestige, but discovers a contract stating he must marry within three months or his legacy will go to his cousin, a man he loathes. He leaves England and disguises himself a gardener, intent on finding a woman who loves him for himself, and not his money and title.

When he spots Julianna on the cliffs, he vows to claim her at any cost, but she is intent on marrying a wealthy husband. He may be disgusted with her values, but he craves to initiate the spinster into the dark world of pleasure. They strike a bargain: she will belong to him every night and do anything he commands. Lust turns to love as the nights unfold, and suddenly the terms change.

But when his cousin comes to town, disguising himself as the perfect husband with a plan to steal Jack's legacy, Jack forces her to choose: love or money. A wrong choice throws a startling chain of events in action. Can love and truth triumph or will it be too late?" ~From Goodreads

Sex, Lies and Contracts is a contemporary erotic romance with an interesting plot of lies and deceit and money and lack of it. The plot was entertaining with enough lies to mix the characters right up, which it did too, and made the novel an interesting read, even just to know what happened with Jack and Julianna. It was missing a little bit of reality I think and warmth of character but still a good read.

The romance was both dominating and sweet, the bedroom scenes had plenty sizzle and control and the sweet side of romance was evident in the way Jack and Julianna got to know each other. The romance was missing just a bit of reality and some sweetness, but it seemed to build up to it.

Probts writing was good and her ideas interesting which contributed to a generally good book, with some really steamy love scenes and one horribly twisted villain and one heroine breaking out of her shell.

You'll like this if... you like rich guy pretending being poor to catch true love, and if you like your heroines coming out of their shell emotionally and sexually - and having one twisted villain hunting the heroine!

AN UNEXPECTED BRIDE - REVIEW, INTERVIEW & GIVEAWAY

"Desperate to fulfill her ailing grandfather’s last wish to see her settle down and get married, Emma Wiggins, a 30-year-old, career-focused executive tells him a little white lie on his deathbed that she is in fact engaged--to her boss, deliciously handsome and emotionally unavailable, Evan Fletcher."

"Emma Wiggins is about to marry her heart-stopping, gorgeous boss, CEO Evan Fletcher, in seven days—too bad he doesn’t know it yet!

Desperate to fulfill her ailing grandfather’s last wish to see her settle down and get married, Emma Wiggins, a 30-year-old, career-focused executive tells him a little white lie on his deathbed that she is in fact engaged--to her boss, deliciously handsome and emotionally unavailable, Evan Fletcher.

The situation takes an unexpected turn when her grandfather's condition improves slightly and to her shock, he goes ahead and arranges a wedding ceremony at his hospital bedside before he passes on. Now, all Emma has to do is convince unsuspecting, commitment-phobic Evan to tie the knot with her in seven days. Can love blossom in the most unlikely situation?" ~From Goodreads

The plot is interesting and the blurb really draws you in, it leaves you expecting a funny, thrilling, tongue in cheek ride! And as fun and cheerful as this book is it's lacking that little bit of extra to make it great. I think if it had been tad bit shorter it would have been more compact and would have had a more fast pace 7 day "courtship".

Emma was fun and reading her embarrassment and antics was entertaining, Evan was a truly commitment phobic corporate guy so much so that it was annoying in the beginning but things mellowed out for him as the story continued and he began to notice he'd fallen for Emma, and we got to see sweeter side of him. An Unexpected Bride is sweet and charming love story with fun and witty side and embarrassment as spice!

You'll like this if... you like your heroines bit goofy, and up to their ears in trouble and a hero who can't quite stay away even though her rationalizes he should.

REVIEW - BOOTS AND CHAPS

"Audrey's got her eye on Jakcson the oldest of the three Grey Wolf brothers to get the edge off but he doesn't seem 'shag and let go' type of guy so when the chance reveals itself she gives one last go at stripping for Jackson's 30th birthday. Things soon get out hand with the three brothers and she's left bondering her past and present and if she can ever settle down."

Series: Ugly Stick Saloon #1

Excerpt: Chapter 1

Audrey is running her own Bar, her stripper days are over and she's working to become a respectable contributor to the small town of Temptation Texas. She's got her eye on Jackson the oldest of the three Grey Wolf brothers to get the edge off but he doesn't seem 'shag and let go' type of guy so when the chance reveals itself she gives one last go at stripping for Jackson's 30th birthday. Things soon get out hand with the three brothers and she's left pondering her past and present and if she can ever settle down.

Jackson has had his eye on Audrey since she got into town, but hasn't found the right time to pursue her with having to raise his twin brothers after their parents passed away. Which is why he feels so conflicted when his birthday surprise Kiki turns him on and gets out a whole new side of him. But when he realizes there is something familiar about masked Kiki all bets are off.

This story was completely unrealistic, but fun especially the end at Ugly Stick Saloon's Ladies Night! It started out with a secret tryst gone wrong and then it all went unbelievable with the stripping and the sexual antics at Jackson's 30th birthday. Myla Jackson writes hot romance for sure, with lots of emotion, tension and passion, with a twist of fun!

I've read ménage before, but never between three brothers and a girl - now even with the brothers not touching or anything it still had a little ick factor for me. If they hadn't been related I would have though it one hot story - with the chaps, ropes and light spanking!

Putting a stripper into a novel is always risky, you have to make sure they have a heart of gold and a pleasant way about them. Audrey was an ex-stripper, she was tough as nails, witty and spunky, but when she took up the Kiki gig she suddenly became weaker as her memories of her abusive ex messed with her head. Which caused her to act out of character and mess with Jackson.

The three brothers were interesting on their own, the wise cracking twins and Jackson's big brother routine. The three sexy Kiowa cowboys were hard working, fun and handsome. Mark and Luke's surprise 30th birthday party sure changed their lives for forever.

I expected Audrey to play around with the twins and hook up with Jackson for good as a happily ever after, but this novel proved me wrong... wanna know what happened? You got to pick this book up on your own!

AUTHOR INTERVIEW & GIVEAWAY - CARA AND THE DRACA

Niina : Welcome to For The Love of Reading, Ms. Louisa Kelley, I’m glad you could make it!

Louisa Kelley : I’m very happy to be here and thank you so much for hosting me today!

Niina : Let’s get started! Can you tell my readers here 4 fun unknown facts about you so we can break the ice?

Louisa :  I’m a vegetarian for one thing, pretty much my entire adult life. I was born in the year of the Dragon, which is my best excuse for my obsession with dragons! I also like to express myself with a lot of exclamation points, a fatal weakness that makes my editors nuts. However, blogging is a bit more forgiving ( grin ). I live in Portland Oregon, where the most popular bumper sticker is “Keep Portland Weird.” I’m doing my best to live up to that sentiment.

Niina : Tell us a little about your newest novel Cara and the Draca , what’s it about?

Louisa : This is book two in my Daughters of Draca series. Like the first book, our heroine lives in Portland. The story is another ( easily stand-alone ) hot and spicy tale of the dragon shape-shifters called the Draca. These sexy Draca are scheming once again to increase their numbers with a powerful spell cast upon the citizens of Portland in the form of magical tattoos. Our shifter hero, Aedhan, is sent to Portland on a mission as the tattoo master of the mysteriously hidden tattoo shop. He wants to redeem his reputation as a bad boy; a Draca of who rarely follows the rules or cares about his own responsibility to the clan. Running the spell and minding the strict rules of behavior are all he’s supposed to be doing.
Then he meets Cara, who is magically drawn to the shop. And that’s when he finds out she may be another precious ‘human daughter of Draca.’ Daughter of Draca indicates a human woman who carries some DNA from an ancient Draca bloodline. This bloodline has the potential to reinvigorate the Dracan species, which at the onset of the first book, had actually been on the verge of extinction. Once Aedhan figures out he’s found another one—in Portland of course!--  things get exponentially complicated, out of control and pretty damn sizzling after that.

Niina : What chapter did you most enjoyed writing and why?

Louisa : I loved writing the big bridge scene. Portland has many old, picturesque bridges that cross the Willamette River. As soon as I moved to Portland and saw those bridges, I started envisioning dragons roaring from the top of one. In a climactic scene, I’ve got Aedhan in his dragon form breathing fire and roaring and creating total chaos in metro Portland. Since it is forbidden for the Draca to show their real selves to humans, this is a very big deal. A complete blast to write!

Niina : How did you find your cover and if you didn't take part in the search, what is your opinion of it?

Louisa :  I adore my covers. Both book covers were done by the amazing artist Christine Griffin, who works for my publisher, Loose Id. I expressly requested her to do the second cover because I love the first one so much and she did a fabulous job.

Niina : What are you working on right now? Can you give us a sneak peak?

Louisa : I’m working on the third and final story in my Draca trilogy. This story will focus on Nareen, who is the de facto Queen of the Draca. She’s a major secondary character in both books, and the instigator of the powerful spells that fuel much of the action. She’s been clamoring to go on her own emotional journey and I am happy to oblige. I’d love to give you a sneak peak but I fear it’s not quite ready for prime time viewing!

Niina : What do you think makes a story sexy?

Louisa :  I think it’s all about characterization and erotic tension. I have to like the characters for one thing, and be invested in their feelings and the story line. The sex needs to make sense, and fulfill an emotional arc in the story. I’ve read sex scenes that go on for pages that leave me cold, and others that are only very short but light my hair on fire. I think writing good sex is a difficult task and challenges me the most when spinning my own erotic tales…My personal preference is that it takes a while to get to the sex. I like the tension to build, until you can hardly wait another minute for the kiss or the love making to happen. However, that’s not always what my publisher wants, so there’s compromise in order for me to meet the demands of the genre and the publisher.

Niina : What’s the best compliment you’ve received on your writing? And who complimented you?

Louisa : I had a great review from The Romance Studio for ‘Lydia and the Draca’. The reviewer said things like: “spicy and fast moving” and the characters were “well written and the story flows well.” She said, “there was instant chemistry between Lydia and Eremon that could almost be felt.” She also said I “penned the sex scenes with detail and believability.” She ended with stating that it was a great short story and she wanted to read more about the Draca. These statements make it all worthwhile to me. I love to know that readers enjoyed the book- and for such gratifying reasons!

Niina : Now to more personal questions! Your Top 3 dangerous fictional bad boys, and why them?

Louisa :  Any of the bad boys in J.R. Ward’s The Black Dagger Brotherhood- they really set the standard for the ultimate bad boys. Brilliant characterization by the author. I’m also partial to Clay, the love interest of Elena Michaels in Kelley Armstrong’s the Otherworld series. He’s hot and bad but has a soft heart for love, my favorite combination. I also adore the hero Lachlain MacRieve, in Kresley Cole’s “A Hunger Like No Other”- Again, skillful and compelling characterization by the author.

Niina : Oh, Lachlain is so good! What is your signature dish?

Louisa :  Probably vegetarian pot pie. I make one big pie, stuffed with yummy vegetables and tasty sauce. Delicious!

Niina : I'm a vegetarian myself so props for that! What does it take to write a really hot love scene?

Louisa : I play soft, sort of new-agey music when I am working on a story. If I’m uninspired at first to write the sex scene, I try to channel memories of making love and focus on specific actions that turned me on and then bring all my senses into the description. I will admit that there were times I got so turned on writing the scene, I had to take a break and go for a walk! Or, um, something else ( grin ).

Niina : Now, before we finish, here are some Quick Fire Questions:

After he gets a taste of her blood on his tattoo needles and discovers the extra special something in her fluids, he decides he must see Cara again, even if it means breaking the rules. And that's when things start to go terribly wrong...or perfectly right.

Cara and The Draca is the second book in the series. I felt it wasn’t complitely a stand alone story, as I was not familiar with the story before I had no idea what the Draca were and anything about their history and culture and where they came from. Which is why the story didn’t sink in fully for me. The cover is gorgeous and very well portraits the hot erotic romance story!

The plot was very interesting though, can’t get too into it so I won’t reveal too much but the Draca are experiment with humans through Aedhan’s tattoo shop and Cara getting a tattoo to cover a scar from a explosion brings her out a Daughter of Draca, a woman who has Draca DNA to Aedhan’s attention and attraction flames up immediately. As interesting as the plot is, there was very little built on it, I would have liked to have seen more. This story was much more about the erotic romance, even though the plot was really interesting.

Cara and Aedhan were both interesting as characters though I felt that wasn’t explored fully. Reading this story I felt it had tons of potential but didn’t quite tap into it. Cara and Aedhan both were shying away from getting together, but eventually gave in anyway. The explanation for most things was magic, it felt bit too loose, I wanted details of a spell or effect or how it caused it instead of just saying it was a spell or magic.

I think my main issue was that this could have been great, and I wanted just a little bit more most the time – but even that said it was still a good book, and a quick read!

You’ll like this book if you like your erotic romance with a touch of fantasy, dragons and mystical pull getting two lovers together no matter what.

The plot is interesting, with uptight and burned Stephanie hooking up with Jason, who's been burned in his end too, for one night of no string attached fun. And then the next morning comes and the storm passes and it's not quite so easy to keep away after all.

This was a good book, I enjoyed it, it lacked some depth that would have upped the score a little, but in all a book worth reading. I liked the whole idea of being marooned in a hotel without electricity for the night and making the most of it.

Jason was very determined, but had a touch of kindness to him leaving the choices to Stephanie who let her hair down and celebrated her divorce with a hunky guy she was to never see again. They were a good match, but lacked that extra something in their chemistry.

The cover is way hotter than the story, there were love scenes there and they were good but they also were missing something. I almost gave this 2.5 stars but it had some really good redeeming qualities like the plot, and the ending and the fact that Stephanie was keeping secrets.

You'll like this if... you fancy the idea of meeting someone in a middle of the storm and creating fireworks, or if you like your characters unable to keep away from each other!
